It's been a long long time since the last Mixtape, but well, here we are again. This one is going to be quite a long read compared to other Mixtapes as to catch up with everything I have watched, read, or what else.
If it hadn't been for a friend of mine, I would not have watched it for sure. A disturbing, somewhat gory anime series that, surprisingly, I enjoyed, despite the fact that I usually try to stay away from any gore and violence. The style plays a big role; black and white imagery makes the madness of the story believable and mundane. I won't rate it very high as I think the overall story was a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, the visuals made it worth watching.
My love for comics and graphic novels continues just like my deepest love for the Italian language and absurdity does as I read the Rat-Man series. And Rat-Man's entelechy has to be an absurdity; the absurdity of its stupidity. However, said stupidity is exactly in the middle of being just plain stupid and tasteless and being genius because of being stupid, which is definitely the charm of the series. I've read only a few issues and I sure am willing to pick it up from time to time when I need to loosen up and just have a good laugh.
Well, I don't think Twin Peaks needs any introductions. I love David Lynch, I love Twin Peaks.
Another friend of mine approached me with vigorous 'You gotta watch 1670, it's like The Office but in XVII century Poland', and I couldn't resist it. And, in fact, it is like The Office but in XVII century Poland. It's a short contemporary mockumentary good for binge-watching in one evening.
After 1670 I couldn't help but binge-watch another mockumentary. I find the series to be as enjoyable as the original movie (What We Do in the Shadows, 2014). It took me one week to watch all 6 seasons, so it has to tell you wether or not it was a good watch.
I'd say I was somewhat forced to watch The Seventh Seal and, to be frank, I'm glad I was put in front of the screen. I like black&white movies quite much so I'm a bit biased when it comes to rating Bergman's work. However, it's just so charming and meditative no matter the daunting subject of the story, so it's actually kind of hard to overrate The Seventh Seal.
I love mockumentaries, I love The Office, so I had no choice but to watch Parks & Rec after I finished What We Do in the Shadows in one week. I have to admit, I complained to my friends and said I didn't like it, but it's been 3 seasons in and I couldn't stop watching. I'd be insane if I said Parks & Rec were better than The Office, but it comes close.
As stated above, I love black&white cinema as well as David Lynch. I decided to watch everything Lynch directed (but that's going to be a long quest) and to start in chronological order, so _Eraserhead_. I'm not a fan of the movie as such. However, it is just beautiful in terms of visuals. Dark and gloomy imagery adds to the confusion and feeling of being trapped in life events and responsibilities of the main character.
As a pretty much hardcore Måneskin fan, I had to listen to all of Damiano David's solo songs. It's not Måneskin for sure, not even close, but in that it's good. It's good because it is not Måneskin, and Damiano tries not to mix the two together, which I very much admire. On the contrary, I still like rock, and this song is the most "rock-ish" of all of his songs as of now, so that's why, I think, I like it better than his other singles.
Another Lynch movie, another black&white one. I like _The Elephant Man_ much better than _Eraserhead_ despite it being less absurd than other Lynch's works. The movie manages to be highly emotional in a somewhat sheepish but very sophisticated manner.
There are only two types of music I can work to productively – the first one being a very specific genre (I might be disclosing one day) I listen to while I write and the other one being anything by Arctic Monkey that is on repeat while I do motion design or animation. _Stop the World I Wanna Get Off With You_ became a soundtrack of the past couple of working weeks and, I guess, it will continue to be such till I fixate on another AM's song.
In the end, the only thing I can say, despite my writing kilos of words every day, it's been a long time since I've written something more or less coherent for other people to read, and all my brain's writing software and melted down writing abilities are not up to snuff in any of the parallel universes. Will see, maybe, I'll be lulled by my inner interest to write (say) an essay in the near future.
